Without question, the Devils, putting on a different color of uniform, came out to play with a firey attitude to match the away reds. Several interesting changes to the lads lineup with Beaulieu and Mallette sitting out. BCHL vet Bagnal took duty on the blueline and was nothing less than spectacular partnering with Koenig back from his work related duties. Notable mentions: Wearing the horns tonight was certainly the pesty Patterson and his physical play combined with his linemates Proctor and Cessford worked the corners demonstrating a lot of grit that was missing in the Abby showdown. Youngsters Ho, Goulet and Kang combined for 2 talleys to make up for some lack luster play in previous outings doing the rookie clan proud. The Devil's power play finally showed up netting two beauties with a Kang snapper to the top corner and a Fowler deflection from a Bagnal one-timer...a VERY welcome change and the penalty kill was stingy forcing errand passes and keeping shots to the outside! Young Busto, playing against his older brother shone in the physical department stepping up making several outstanding checks at the defensive blueline and after last nights performance, certainly earning the "Scoop's Dog House Award", I am sure he breathed a sign of relief. Veteran players rounded off the play keeping the pressure on and taking care of defensive responsibilities.
It was a crowded house folks and for this fan it was "PIJ" entertainment at it's finest! Next game for home town is in Whistler...one heck of drive folks but well worth the trip. Till next game..
A sad night for the home town lads folks. Richmond was a better "team" completing more passes and finishing more scoring opportunities at opportune moments than the unlucky Devils. While offensive opportunities favored home town with one penalty shot attempt missed by Kyle Brown (at the end of long and tiring shift) and two goal posts early adding to dominant play overall that would have added to the early first period lead of 1-0, a great shot by Trevor Kang (his first goal as a Devil), it was not meant to be.
Richmond tied it up on the power play to end the second period in a tie 1/1 taking control of some "lack luster" play by home town and some undisciplined penalties which took away some of the offensive momentum.
The first period was almost like watching paint dry folks. The Devils showed little enthusiasm for the game and with the standings heating up...Aldergrove making a move as an exciting young team, Sockeyes losing to Grandview and Grandview only suffering one loss so far and that was to the home down boys, I expected a lot more and so did the fans that showed up. With the game scoreless after one, there was hope for the second and with Norbert playing strong in the home town net, it was hopeful that there would be a lot more energy in the second than in the first but this was not the case with the Pilots leaving the period with a 2-0 lead.
The third period was a tough one with the refeeing making several calls in the opening minutes to take away any momentum that could have worked in the Devils favor. Some untimely give-aways and failed attempts to get the puck out by home town gave the Pilots two more markers with a 4-0 score heading into the final minutes of play. Fowler netted the only goal at the end of the period and overall had a good game.
Notable mentions: Norbert was solid in between the pipes and Fowler played well.
Final notes: Overall, defensive zone was scrambly and again power play let the team down with several opportunities and a goal post but again the special team drew a blank. The Devils have to get this working. Enough badgering of the lads but they must show up for tomorrow's game at BWC at 3:45. Lot's on the line!
Give 'em hell lads and let's get back to the hard work!
Welcome to the 2008-09 North Delta Devils! These are exciting times for the hockey club, with a new owner strongly behind the team and community, and our new name and attitude, the Devils plan to bring an exciting and entertaining brand of hockey to Sungod arena every Saturday night.
With a strong base of returning players, coupled with several new and talented recruits, the Devils will have a very competitive team this season and look to climb in the standings from last season. We plan to have strong ties to the community, and will be very accessible to media and fans.
Please feel free to contact me for any information or questions. We look forward to seeing you Saturday nights this season.
Ron Johnson, Head Coach
The Devils organization would like to thank all of the players, volunteers and fans for another exciting season.
While last season 07/08 ice times were moved from a 7:30 pm start to an 8:30 pm start, the fans that endured the subsequent late evening were most grafefully appreciated and we are doing everything that we can to move this ice time back to our orginal start by forming an exciting new alliance with the North Delta Minor Hockey Association. More information will be provided in a new NDMHA link page coming soon! .
